John Anthony Garbin

John "Jack" Garbin, 86, of Los Angeles, CA, passed away on September 18, 2023. Born on March 28, 1937, in Torrington, CT, Jack was an adventurous and loyal individual who had a deep love for animals, particularly dogs.

In his youth, Jack wanted to become an actor. So after graduating from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City, he packed up his Volkswagen Beetle and headed west. But, like so many others, stardom eluded him. So he changed course and became a paralegal. Jack was a senior paralegal for the LA County Public Defender. His dedication to his work earned him numerous awards and recognition. His commitment to securing gubernatorial pardons for those who had paid their debt to society and went on to lead exemplary lives was highlighted in a feature article in the LA Times. One woman, who later became a veterinarian, credited Jack for her success in life.

In addition to his successful career, Jack had a passion for opera, travel, and reading. He loved Italy and traveled there 12 times; he particularly loved the City of Florence. Jack's love of animals led him to become a volunteer at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah.

Jack is survived by his three sisters: June Weingart of Lake Forest, CA, Norma Trinchero (Pete) of Venice, FL, Sylvia Feeney (Rick) of Wethersfield, CT, and seven nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Primo and Connie Garbin.

Memorial services with military honors will be on November 30, 2023 at 11 AM. The service will be at the Los Angeles National Cemetery. Natural Grace, located in Brentwood, CA, is assisting the family with the arrangements. They can be contacted at 310-684-3086.
