Virginia Hollis, 85, of Los Angeles, California, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2025, after a nearly four-year battle with cancer.
Born on December 6, 1939, in Oswego, Kansas, to Lester Scott and Mary Lee Anna, Virginia developed a lifelong love of reading and learning inspired by her mother’s stories. She became valedictorian of her high school class as the only Black student, a testament to her intelligence and determination.
Virginia enjoyed a 40-year career at Bank of America, rising to Vice President in accounting. She was devoted to her family, serving as a classroom and team parent to both her son and grandson.
She loved flowers, plants, rock hunting, and traveling the United States with Frank on meaningful road trips. Virginia was a faithful member of Crenshaw Christian Center, sustained by her favorite scripture, John 3:16.
Joint Memorial Service
A joint memorial service will be held at Los Angeles National Cemetery on December 22, 2025, at 11:30 a.m.
Military honors will be rendered for Frank Hollis, including presentation of the American flag to his son, Kevin Hollis.
Scripture will be read by Pastor LeRoy Matthews, pastor and friend of the family.
Frank and Virginia’s lives were a testament to unwavering faith, enduring love, and a deep appreciation for the beauty and history of the world around them. Their legacy of curiosity, devotion, and compassion will continue to inspire all who knew them. They now rest together, surrounded by eternal love.
