Joyce Peters Obituary

Joyce Ann Peters, age 72, entered into rest peacefully on March 14, 2025 at her home in Los Angeles, CA, after a long battle with Parkinson’s.  Joyce was a loving mother and grandmother who was born in Augusta, GA to William Wayne McDonald and Elizabeth (Betty) Harrison. She lived most of her life there except for times her military father moved the family to Germany and Oklahoma. She had vivid memories of traveling around the beautiful German countryside and being chased by geese as tall as she was! She graduated from Glenn Hills High School in 1970, married John (Fred) Peters, Jr. and raised two children. After her divorce she worked as a nurse and adopted a young girl, Elizabeth.  She was known for her friendliness, compassion, and sense of humor. Her passions included dolls, dollhouses (she kept 5 after the kids left home), gardening, puzzles, playing piano, sewing, and reading.  She enjoyed visiting the beach and hiking in the mountains. She loved animals and always fostered animals in need. A life long Trekkie, she attended Augusta’s first Trekkie Convention and saw James Doohan, the actor who played Scottie. She also attended DragonCon wearing steampunk and fairy costumes of her own making.  In her final years she moved in with her daughter Erin and explored Los Angeles. She saw Grauman’s Chinese Theater and their famous hand and foot prints of the stars. She saw the La Brea Tar Pits, the Getty Museum, Huntington Gardens, and of course, Disneyland. She will be cremated March 27 in Los Angeles. A Celebration of Life will be held in Augusta, GA, in the summer, most likely at the Unitarian Church. In lieu of flowers, please donate in her name to an animal charity or local shelter. Joyce is survived by her mother Elizabeth McDonald; brother Eric (Melinda) McDonald; children Dylan (Heidi) Peters, Erin Peters, and Elizabeth Salazar; grandchildren Patricia (Nathan) Hobbs, Ian Peters, and Katherine Peters, and great grandchildren Jude Stevens and Gwendolyn Hobbs.
