Janice Aarvold Obituary

Janice Lee Aarvold, known as Jan, 92, passed away peacefully in her sleep in Newport Beach on October 22, 2025. Born on October 8, 1933, in Los Angeles, California, to Robert Allen Jr. and Bernice (Billy) Eleanor Smith Allen, Jan lived a life full of adventure and cherished moments near the water she loved so dearly.

Jan grew up on Balboa Island, where at a young age she worked at her family's Variety Store. She attended Newport Harbor High School and Orange Coast College, forming lifelong connections to the coastal community that would always hold a special place in her heart. Jan married her high school sweetheart, Roxy/Don, and together they built a beautiful life spanning 71 years of marriage and raised four children.

Jan made her home in Newport Beach, California, Durango, Colorado, and Pagosa Springs, Colorado, while spending winters in the warmth of San Carlos, Mexico. A devoted domestic engineer, she poured her heart into creating a loving home for her family. She had a short career in real estate and later found her niche in jewelry estate sales.

An avid boater and beach lover, Jan was happiest when near the water. She was deeply patriotic and loved her country. Her faith in Jesus was the foundation of her life. Jan had a passion for genealogy and was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She delighted in hosting family reunions, birthday parties, and family gatherings, and enjoyed playing bridge with friends. Those who knew Jan marveled at her extraordinary memory—she could recall names, places, phone numbers, and historical details with remarkable clarity, making her the keeper of family stories and cherished histories.

Jan is survived by her husband of 71 years, Don/Roxy Aarvold; her sister Ann Pangle; her three children, Mark Aarvold, Kelly Couzens Brooks and her husband Michael Brooks, and Brad Aarvold; her grandchildren, Brittnie Couzens, Kristen Couzens, Morgan Aarvold, Grace Aarvold, Alyssa Cash and her spouse Sean Cash, Kyle Aarvold and his spouse Sarah, Cody Aarvold, Kourtney Aarvold, and Ash Aarvold; and great-grandchildren Stella and Sophia Aarvold. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Michael Aarvold.

Her ashes will be scattered in the ocean by her family. Friends and family are invited to gather together in remembrance of Jan for an uplifting celebration on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 1:00 pm at Bayside Village North Clubhouse, 300 East Coast Highway, Newport Beach, CA.
