Frank Johnson Hollis

Frank Hollis, 91, of Los Angeles, California, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. 

Born on February 26, 1934, in Sulligent, Alabama, to Abe and Alma Hollis, Frank grew up on the family farm with his siblings Elreece, Elbert, Raymond, Elmer, and Audrey. He attended Lamar County Training School, where he developed a strong work ethic, discipline, and lifelong curiosity. 

Frank proudly served in the United States Army, completing two stints with honorable discharge. He served in Germany as a radio teletype operator, achieved the rank of SP4, and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal. Following his service, he pursued education at Southwest College and enjoyed a 40-year career in aerospace at McDonnell Douglas, Litton, Teledyne, and Boeing, serving as a Radar Quality Control Manager. 

Frank shared 64 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Virginia. He was a devoted father to Kevin Hollis and a proud grandfather to Kevin Hollis Jr. He collected rocks and stones including jade, quartz, and amethyst, was dedicated to preserving Hollis family genealogy, loved blues music, and enjoyed meaningful cross-country journeys with Virginia in their Winnebago visiting historic American landmarks. 

He was a longtime member of Crenshaw Christian Center, guided by unwavering faith.

Joint Memorial Service 

A joint memorial service will be held at Los Angeles National Cemetery on December 22, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. 

Military honors will be rendered for Frank Hollis, including presentation of the American flag to his son, Kevin Hollis. 

Scripture will be read by Pastor LeRoy Matthews, pastor and friend of the family. 

Frank and Virginia’s lives were a testament to unwavering faith, enduring love, and a deep appreciation for the beauty and history of the world around them. Their legacy of curiosity, devotion, and compassion will continue to inspire all who knew them. They now rest together, surrounded by eternal love.
