D.J. at 57 was called home by the Lord. He passed peacefully after a valiant fight against metastatic renal cell cancer.
Through the years, he created a home for his family in Huntington Beach, CA. He is the beloved husband of Sharon Lynn Flory and the loving father of Rachel Lynn Flory and Amber Mae Flory. A cherished son to Jerry Flory and Lynda Flory (preceded), brother to Crystal Flory-Biller, brother-in-law to Josh Biller, and uncle to Blake Biller. D.J. was born in Hawthorne and raised in Manhattan Beach, CA. Under the guidance of his father, Jerry, and many coaches he developed a love of sports. He played baseball, soccer, and football with levels ranging from Little League to travel before attending Aviation and Mira Costa High School. D.J.’s passion for sports did not end there, as he went on to play collegiate baseball at California State University of Long Beach while completing his degree in economics.
Following in his father’s footsteps, D.J. held a successful coaching career in both soccer and softball. He passed on his knowledge and love for the game to his daughters and many others from AYSO and SHB and to club sports. D.J. also shared a love for the outdoors and the gym with his wife and family. He became part of the SSJ community and shared a Christian faith. He had many long and treasured friendships throughout his life. He will be remembered for his kindness and caring demeanor, as well as his dedication to family, friends, work and community. He left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him and will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
Dean’s life will be honored at Saints Simon & Jude Catholic Church at 1:30 PM on Saturday 6/29/2024, with a gathering to follow at the Ferguson home at 6003 Village Rd. Lakewood, CA 90713.
